I just got done reading a story on CNN about the Iranian government demanding ridiculous apologies for insults in movies for the last 30 years. The story can be found here: http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/03/01/iran.hollywood/index.html
Now I have a lot to say about this. First of all many of these films (300, The Wrestler) are fiction and any idiot can see that. No one is going to watch 300, see Persians, hate them, then think Iranians are Persians, so lets hate Iranians. These offenses that Iran and many others in the Islamic world try to accuse modern nations of are a complete farse.
I really see this as a way of trying to gain social control over nations that actually care about the hearts and minds of others. They are trying to use our obsession with political correctness to gain a high ground against us and I think it is high time that we tell them where they can shove their complaints.
I for one am tired of this BS. We keep bending over backwards to try to negotiate peace with these countries and they keep trying to take advantage of us and our hospitality. They are being arrogant elitists acting like they are the only ones that matter. They are not and in fact in the grand scheme of things they are rather insignificant. But we worry because they might have a nuke up their sleeve and because they do have a large influence across the Muslim world. To that I must remind everyone that while they might have a nuke or two we have a hell of a lot more than that and they know that if they use one on us the retaliation will be a thousand times worse than anything they could ever do to us. We literally have a type of nuclear bomb that could wipe out all life in Iran while causing little physical damage and leaving no residual radiation after a few weeks. We could simply erase them and their government knows it. We don’t use it because we are not bastards like that and we actually have a respect and love for life.
The point is people we need to stop bending over backwards for the Iranian government and start making them do a few yoga moves to please us. Lets stop acting like cowards and start putting them in their place. By the way, before anyone says this, I am not saying that we are better than them. I am not saying anything bad about the Iranian people. I am, however, saying that the Iranian government is worse than us and that their government officials should be put on trial for human rights violations and punished accordingly. I am also saying that they are not as big and scary as we make them out to be and that I wish the media would stop painting them as such.
Also we should not feel guilty for having a better quality of life than those in third world countries (such as Iran). Our ancestors worked hard to get us to where we are now and our people as whole have earned it. That said, I think that a Stan Lee quote comes into play here “With great power comes great responsibility!”. We have a responsibility as human beings to help those less fortunate than us when given the opportunity. Not only those within our own country but those anywhere in the world as long as they want our help. However, if they don’t want it then we should not try to give it to them. It is their choice.
Ok, I am done ranting on this subject. Comments are always welcome. Peace!
