Welcome to Pjerky.com. I am working hard to get this site up and running. To give it the features that I enjoy the most. That I find most useful. I am a web developer and as one I tend to experiment with any and all web apps and technology that I can get my hands on. This is my first personal experiment with WordPress. I will work on developing my own widgets and modifications. The theme I am using is the Aeros theme that I have modified to my liking. I will most likely continue to build out this site.
Features that I want to include on this site are links to my favorite RSS feeds, commentary on the state of the computer and technology industry, commentary on legal actions and precedents, and demonstrations of my own skill as a PHP Web Developer.
My skills are primarily based in PHP programming, however I have extensive experience in other areas such as SQL databases, DB design, CSS, HTML, and Javascript. I am also an experienced computer technician. Previously doing everything from phone-based technical support to hands on repair of laptops, desktops, servers, and projectors. Originally I studied networking and network administration and I quickly branched out in multiple directions.
My programming experience is not limited to PHP and Javascript. I did C++, Java, and C# during college and previously taught myself QBasic in high school. Of all the languages that I have learned, only three I did not teach to myself. Those three would be C++ (love this language), Java (plan on relearning this language and learning it fully), and C# (didn’t learn fully, but not very fond of it). Now that I think about it, I also learned a bit of VB in college as well.
In the future, I hope to learn Ruby and I will probably have to learn ASP.net eventually (yuck). I will continue to delve into new languages, frameworks, and technologies. My interests are wide and ever expanding. I am a nerd through and through, which is why I will continue to watch and learn about my favorite subjects such as biology, technology, astronomy, social interactions, human behavior & psychology, and physics.
I believe that many advancements in these fields will continue to be made not by big companies and governments, but by regular Joe’s, hobbyists that study the subjects in their spare time. The personal computer was developed in a garage, the common car was designed in a shed, and currently home bio-enthusiasts are working on making genetic modifications to organisms that could eventually help us solve current day challenges. The world is changing, but there are many that stifle good changes and advancements because of greed. Those people use fear mongering, citing potentially horrible and unethical events occuring because an individual is working on the research instead of a company that would use it for vast profit. I could go on, but I best end this introduction and save my thoughts for future posts.
I hope that you find my site helpful and fun and I hope to hear from you soon.
